From the Universitas Gadjah Mada School of Medicine, 21 final-year medical students, having successfully finished and cleared the national exam, were the participants. In a purposive manner, participants were recruited to reflect the diversity of genders and performance levels, specifically including high-performing and average-performing students. Based on their performance, participants were divided into two focus groups, each steered by non-teaching faculty members, with the aim of preventing bias. Infant and youth-focused pain assessment systems are the current standard for automated pain evaluations. A considerable range of ages among children experiencing postoperative pain complicates the practicality of treatments in clinical settings. A large-scale CPEC dataset for postoperative pain assessment in children is presented in this article. The Anhui Provincial Children's Hospital documented 4104 children (0-14 years of age) with 4104 preoperative videos and 4865 postoperative videos, all collected from January 2020 to December 2020. Inspired by the successful applications of deep learning in medical imaging and emotional expression, we have developed a novel deep learning framework, designated as the Children Pain Assessment Neural Network (CPANN), to automatically evaluate postoperative pain in children, using their facial expressions as the key input. The CPANN's training and evaluation processes are based on the CPEC data set. Performance of the framework is determined by its accuracy and macro-F1 score. CPEC's testing set data indicates the CPANN's performance of 821% accuracy and 739% macro-F1 score. Using the CPANN is faster, more convenient, and more objective in assessing pain compared to pain scales, particularly when differentiating based on the specific pain type or child's condition. During a three-day period, we measured the daily iodine intake, excretion, and retention of school-aged children, employing no dietary interventions. A study using linear mixed-effects models investigated the link between total iodine intake (TII) and iodine retention (IR).
A group of 29 children, whose ages ranged from seven to twelve years old, with an average age of ten years and twenty-four days, and displaying normal thyroid function and thyroid volume (Tvol), were enrolled in the study. Iodine intake fluctuation resulted in corresponding shifts in the zero balance value (iodine intake equaling iodine excretion, causing zero iodine retention) within an iodine-sufficient population. The zero balance for school-aged children with an iodine intake of 235 (133, 401) grams per day is 164 g/d. The positive iodine state was almost achieved in children, aged seven to twelve, whose iodine intake surpassed 400 grams daily.
